The 2006 - 2007 Great Valley Wrestling Team has to replace the likes of Billy Hasen who tied a school record with 108 career wins, Charlie Andersen and Drew Smith. Drew was a three time state qualifier and placed eighth his junior year.
As it looks as of November 21, the first two weights will be filled with some inexperience.
103 Lbs: Brien Spengeman who is a first year junior.
112 lbs: Freshman Mike Chawaga who is coming up from the middle school.
119 lbs: Sophomore Kyle Liberato (Regional Qualifier) is moving up from his 103 lb weight class from a year ago.
125 lbs: Sophomore Tony Pisciella will anchor down this weight
130 lbs: Sophomore Gary Magill will be the wrestler in this weight class.
135 lbs: Sophomore Domenic DeRobertis and Travis Donnor will be competeing for the starting position here..
140 lbs: More than likely this weight will be filled by either Domenic or Travis.
145 lbs: One of the more competitive weight classes within our team. Senior Pat McGinn and Sophomore Scott Schretzenmaier will battle for the starting position here.
152lbs: Senior Matt Magill (Regional Qualifier) will more than likely earn the starting position
160 lbs: Sophomore Myles Tornetta will move up one weight class from a year ago and looks like the front runner.
171 lbs: Senior Jay Hahn (Regional Qualifier) looks to be the front runner in this weight as he moves up from 160. He will get plenty of competition from Lou Alleva when Lou recovers from a football injury.
189 lbs: Sophomore Carl Buchholz (a regional wrestler last year) looks to be the front runner in this weight.
215 lbs: Senior Pete Maganas might be a light 215 but showed his worth a year ago and could return to this spot. Pete will get stiff competition from Devin Brander when he comes down from 285.
285 lbs: Senior Devin Brander looks poised to fill this weight but may seem some competition from Senior Carmen Pavone who is returning to the team after a two year absence..
The team should be competitive in the SCCLÂ but a lot is going to depend on our two newcomers at 103 and 112 as they develop in their varsity roles. After the intitial two weights the team brings in some young wrestlers with plenty of experience. If they can start where they left off a year ago it should prove to be an advantage for the team. The leadership of the current seniors will be an important piece to filling this puzzle. With the likes of Matt Magill and Jay Hahn leading that charge. Both were regional qualifiers a year ago and are gunning to return again this year.
