The 2005 - 2006 Great Valley Wrestling Team has to replace the likes of Scott D'Annunzio who set a school record with 108 career wins, Will Sargent, Alex Segal and Jason Norton. In the early going it looks as if the team will replace the above outstanding wrestlers with a number of freshmen that are coming off the most successful season ever by the Great Valley Middle School where coach Owen Brown led them to a SEPA Jr. High/Middle School Championship. There could be a total of seven freshmen from that middle school team starting on any given night for GVHS.
As it looks as of November 21, the first four weights will be filled by freshmen.
103 Lbs: Kyle Liberato looks to have the early jump on the weight class but he will be challenged by another freshman in Mike Praplaski.
112 lbs: Tony Pisciella looks like he will anchor down that spot and he should receive some competition from freshman Dan Crusellas.
119 lbs: Domenic DeRobertis looks to be the front-runner.
125 lbs: Gary Magill may possibly fill the 125 lb. weight class but should receive some competition from another freshman Travis Donner. Freshman Eric Shaver will also challenge the spot.
130 lbs: Should be four-year starter and senior Bill Hasen. Bill brings the most experience to the lightweight group. He should be backed up by freshman Mike Malley.
135 lbs: Freshman Scott Schretzenmaier and sophomore Mark Brewer should compete for the starting position.
140 lbs: Junior Pat McGinn and sophomore Arne Anderson should compete for the starting position.
145 lbs: Should be controlled by returning starter and junior Matt Magill once he gets down to weight.
152lbs: One of the team's deepest weight classes. Where you will have the likes of senior Charlie Andersen, Junior Jake Elters, sophomore Trevor Smith and freshman Myles Tornetta competing for the starting spot.
160 lbs: Junior Jay Hahn who is a returning starter coming off an 18 win season a year ago. Jay should also get a push from sophomore Lucas Goodwin and freshman Tucker Goodwin.
171 lbs: Another weight class with a number of wrestlers competing for the starting spot starting with junior Pete Maganas, sophomore Lou Alleva, sophomore JD Bureski and freshman Carl Buchholz.
189 lbs: The teams top returning wrestler from a year ago and returning after finishing seventh in the state last year senior Drew Smith will hold down the this weight class once again.
215 lbs: Junior Devin Brander will return again after a successful season a year ago.
275 lbs: The team currently does not have a 275 lb wrestler to close things out.
The team could be competitive in the SCCL but a lot is going to depend on how quickly the freshmen mature during the season and are able to adjust to the high school level of competition. Bill Hasen and Drew Smith are expected to have strong years once again. Matt Magill was a District qualifier a year ago and will hopefully pick up where he left off. Jay Hahn will be starting for the Patriots for the third year and is expected to have another strong year.
